Today, Alex and I had our semi-annual dental checkup. On the way back, we stopped by the Short Hills Mall to check out the iPhone 6 and 6 plus in the Apple store. I thought that I made a good choice to preorder the 6+. Alex, on the other hand, preferred the 6.
There was a Cheesecake Factory in the mall, which opened not too long ago. Alex had the spicy chipotle chicken sandwich, which was crispy, tender but not spicy. I had the everything pizza with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella and tomato sauce. This was my first thin crust pizza after Chicago trip. I missed it so much! For dessert, we shared the Original, which was very similar to Eileen’s cheesecake, fluffy and light, even though I wasn’t a big fan of the sour cream on top.
Not sure why, I thought Drowning by BANKS paired well with this meal.
After visiting Momofuku Ko, we thought to meet up with a friend of ours for some desserts and drinks. Veniero’s Pastry Shop was nearby and we love their desserts. Alex and I shared millefoligie, which light, delicate, pastry filled with bavarian cream and topped
with powdered sugar, and New York Style cheesecake. We got three chocolate desserts for our friend, who was a chocolate fan. We had desserts at Union Square park. There was a squirrel sitting behind us.
I think that I had enough of Veniero’s cheesecakes for a while. Love Runs Out by OneRepublic suited well with this meal.
Veniero’s was one of my favorite dessert places in the city. I have always brought people here, when they were visiting the big Apple for the first time. They had a lot of dessert and beverage choices. I have tried a few of the items and my favorite was always the plain New York style cheesecake. Even though it was not as dense as Junior’s, it was super creamy. Almond torte and tiramisu were also well known. Forgot to mention that you must have some alcoholic coffee beverages with the dessert.
Sweet Song by Cecile Corbel paired very well with this meal.
During our anniversary, we stopped by many places in NYC. Of course, there had to be a dessert place. Eileen’s Special Cheesecake was rated as one of the best in the city. I had been to this place before and loved their fluffy cheesecakes, which were made with egg white, instead of whole eggs, as one of the ingredients. This time we got a plain and a salted caramel. However, I still preferred Junior’s New York style dense cheesecakes, which were made with lots of cream cheese.
I was always thinking about cheesecake so Thinking About You by Calvin Harris would pair well with cheesecakes.
Peter Luger Steak House was always one of my top choices for having a dry aged steak. This hangout event was supposed to happen last week but due to the heavy work load it was rescheduled. There were nine of us tonight. And I had fun. We ordered two orders of USDA prime dry aged beef steak for three, two orders lamb chops, two orders of creamed spinach, four pieces of bacon, onion rings, two orders of “Holy Cow”, one cheesecake and two rounds of beer. Not to mention the bread box and pre-dinner drinks. We were so stuffed.
I thought Coming Back to Life by David Gilmour would pair very well with the meal, which made me happy and relaxed.
It was the NYC Restaurant Week again. Capital Grill was always one of my top choices for a steal meal. For three course, I had field greens, dry aged sirloin salad and cheesecake. I also tried a little bit of the flourless chocolate espresso cake. Everything was well cooked and not too salty or sweet. I was stuffed.
I heard this song last night during the newest episodes of Rising Star. One of the contestants, Jesse Kinch, was singing Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes and got 88% votes. I thought this song would work well with this meal.
On a coolish summer night, my husband and I decided to go for a walk after a tiring day. I was craving for some cheesecake (NY style, of course!). We went to the Carlos Bakery, which we thought still open with some people lined up in the front. However, it was closed. We walked over to Aspen Marketplace and got a mini NY Cheesecake from the bakery department.
Afterwards, we went to the Hoboken boardwalk. While passing by Giannone Wine & Liquor Co., we decided to get a small bottle of wine. The Chocolate Shop wine caught our eye. We thought cheesecake plus chocolate is a perfect combination with wine. This was the first time that we were trying a flavored wine.
Finally, we reached the water front and found a bench with a baby robin standing on it, who seemed got hurt. Alex tried to feed it with cheesecake but it refused and flew away.
We were looking for the right song to pair with the dessert and the wine. Then we found Hysteria by Def Leppard, which I thought it was perfect for the moment. We were enjoying the food, the wine, the music and the Manhattan skylines.
Please let me know how you think about this pairing. Welcome to comments! Cheers!
