We have been wanting to visit Gramercy Tavern for a long time. This place has also been rewarded with one star on the Michelin Guide as far as I can remember. Finally, we decided to visit here for celebrating my birthday. During lunch, the dining room wasn’t crowded at all. We had a several dishes and they were all very remarkable: braised Hinona turnips, beet mezzaluna, celery root chowder, duck breast & bacon, and pear pudding. Everything was fresh, seasonal and different than anything that we ever had.
The meal could really work with Stephanie Sun’s 尚好的青春. The song is about we should feel no regrets for our youth.
Today, Alex and I didn’t bring lunch to work. Since Alex was new to the area, we decided to have Terrace Fish & Chips – a place that I have been for a several times and liked it. I got the grilled salmon with brown rice, mixed mesclun, carrot, cucumber and seasoned mushroom. Alex got fried fish with potato wedges. Both dishes were good. Fish were tender and juicy. I liked the seasoned mushroom a lot.
Bang Bang by Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj reminded me of Bang Bang shrimp from Bonefish.
This was my second time stayed at a hospital overnight this year. I hope this would be the last time ever for me. On the way home, stopping by Brownstone Dinner seemed becoming a tradition for us. Since I had to watch what I was eating this time, I ordered a greek yogurt with berries, which was pretty good. Alex ordered chicken quesadilla and curly fries.
I was very looking forward to go home, shower then rest. First Flight Home by Jake Miller suited well with this meal.
Today, Alex and I had our semi-annual dental checkup. On the way back, we stopped by the Short Hills Mall to check out the iPhone 6 and 6 plus in the Apple store. I thought that I made a good choice to preorder the 6+. Alex, on the other hand, preferred the 6.
There was a Cheesecake Factory in the mall, which opened not too long ago. Alex had the spicy chipotle chicken sandwich, which was crispy, tender but not spicy. I had the everything pizza with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella and tomato sauce. This was my first thin crust pizza after Chicago trip. I missed it so much! For dessert, we shared the Original, which was very similar to Eileen’s cheesecake, fluffy and light, even though I wasn’t a big fan of the sour cream on top.
Not sure why, I thought Drowning by BANKS paired well with this meal.
Today, I had a pasta craving. There’s a not bad Italian place across street from work – Pranzo. I always got the small spaghetti and meatballs with vegetables and garlic bread ($6.5). It filled me up. The meatballs were very soft and worked very well with the tomato sauce. The garlic bread was a must have but make sure that you chew a gum afterwards.
This was my first time to have lunch with bunch of girls for lunch. It was so fun! We went to this Japanese place, which was not far from work, called Haru. The place was huge with two floors. I got the sushi special with 7 pieces of assorted sushi and 1 tuna roll. The fish was very fresh.
To celebrate Alex’s new position, we decided to go to Momofuku Ko – a two Michelin star restaurant in NYC. It was very hard to make the reservation. You had to log onto their website at a certain time and to be lucky. This place was very tiny with 12 seats at the bar. They served 6 customers at the same time. It costed $175 per person before tax for a 16-course meal. Everything was prepared in front of you. Chefs were extremely knowledgable and friendly. The menu items changed pretty much for every meal. Today, it seemed having a cucumber theme.
We had the following dishes:
Deviled quail egg with lox and everything bagel seasoning
Chilled cucumber soup with wiped sake
Washington state oysters with cucumber vinegary
Fried potato skin with sour cream and frumentos cheese
Scallop with cucumber and almond (took a long time to prepare)
Alex and I were pretty lazy today and decided to have Bertolli® Shrimp, Asparagus & Penne from the freezer aisle, after seeing many of their commercials. We were super curious if it would meet our standards. Turned out, it was super easy to prepare. We only had to cook it on the stove top for 9 minutes and then dinner was ready. Pasta was perfectly cooked. I wish that there were more vegetables and shrimps weren’t too robbery. However, at the end of the day, it was a frozen meal. I would definitely like to try their other dishes, when we are feeling lazy again.
L’essenziale (The Essential) By Marco Megoni paired well with this meal.
Today, I had Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine for lunch. I haven’t had it for a while and missed it. I had the Friday special – goat stew with salad and sweet plantains. The goat stew was a hit or miss sometimes but today it was pretty tender. I had it with lots of the green sauce, which as just to die for.
She Looks So Perfect by 5 Seconds Of Summer paired well with this meal.
My coworker asked me to join her for lunch today at this newly opened place, called Dig Inn Seasonal Market. Maybe it was pretty early, the line was pretty short for ordering the market plates. We were able to place the order fairly quickly. I got the veggie plate with seasonal quinoa salad, Sicilian roasted cauliflower w/ chickpeas, and string beans & roasted potatoes on a bed of grains. It was very healthy and fulling. I definitely would have it again.
This lunch was very fancy and Fancy By Iggy Azalea would definitely pair well with this meal.
